Meet the Team

Our adult leaders are a diverse yet friendly bunch. We all come together under the banner of Scouting and support each other to give of our best.

Group Scout Leader – Jacqueline Bell

Jacqui has been a leader with Ashby Hastings since 2008, initially with Beavers, then Cubs before taking on the GSL role in 2016.  Proudly wearing her Queen’s Guide badge on her Scout shirt, she firmly believes in all Scouts has to offer everyone and repeatedly reminds the leaders they’re supposed to be having fun as well as the kids!

Chair – Edward Starkey

Ed has 2 sons in the group and became the group’s Chair in 2021 & is looking forward to being part of our team.

Secretary – Helen Stokes

Helen took on the role of Secretary at our AGM in August 2021, taking over from Kaf, who had fulfilled the role for 4 years.  Helen contributes behind the scenes on the Group Exec, with responsibilities including managing to keep track of our conversations each Exec meeting and producing clear minutes.  Welcome to Ashby Hastings!

Treasurer – Rebecca Benfield

Becca has wielded her skills on the Group’s accounts for several years, ensuring we have a clear understanding on our finances; keeping track of subs, expenses and managing our accounts to great effect.

Quartermaster – Andy Coker

Andy is a man with multiple portfolios in Scouts in Leicestershire.  However, he was our QM first!  You’ll find him taking care of our kit (and helping other groups with theirs), and also teaching first aid and running the County Mountain Bike Activity Team.

Buildings Officer – Jim Dale

Jim is another familiar face in a new role, taking over from Andrew Perry at our AGM in August 2021.  He has helped out with various building-related matters in the past, and is more than capable to take over this important aspect of our trustee responsibilities.

Scout Section Leader – John Munslow

John heads up our Scout section.  He started gradually as a parent helper for some years with nearby Blackfordby Scout Group, before becoming an assistant leader at Ashby Hastings then taking on the section leader mantle in 2019.  After Charnwood International “Charnmud” wash-out camp in 2019, he’s looking forward to running a drier camp as soon as we’re allowed!

Cub Scout Section Leader – Caroline Fraser

Caroline took over Cubs in 2012 and gives our younger members the chance to develop further after their time in Beavers. Be warned, when you’re on camp, Akela will make sure you eat all your dinner!

Beaver Scout Section Leader – Rachel Dale

Rachel, known as Hedgehog to our turquoise jumper wearing youngest members, is an enthusiastic leader, dedicated to providing our youngest section with a fantastic start to their Scouting experience, juggling her family & work so that it seemingly all just happens. A lot of smiles proves just how well she does this!

Each of the 3 section leaders is supported by a team of volunteers who all contribute to planning and delivering the Scout programme. However, we’re always keen to welcome new people as we like to ensure we can respect everyone’s demands on their life and that time spent volunteering is as flexible as it needs to be.

Adult Volunteers

Providing young people with a range of skills, experiences and opportunities that will help them develop as individuals and members of our community.
