All our leaders are volunteers. It is immensely satisfying to help our young people develop – and learn skills & make friends ourselves while we’re at it. In fact, you may well find you can bolster your own CV as a result too.

There are plenty of different roles, so please get in touch if you’d like to be part of the world’s largest youth movement and make a difference. Don’t just take our word for it, here’s a BBC article from 2017.

What might being part of our Scout group look like? In many ways, it’s up to you.

  • Could you turn up regularly to help run the weekly meetings?
  • Have you got a skill, hobby, professional knowledge that you could share on a themed evening meeting?
  • Behind the scenes – could you help maintain the grounds or our equipment?
  • Executive Committee members are trustees, responsible for the proper governance of the charity. Maybe this sounds more your thing?
  • Something else entirely – we’re open to suggestions

We don’t expect any prior knowledge, there is training provided in the form of a range of modules appropriate to the role you agree to.  All our adults are required to hold an enhanced DBS and for some roles we will need you to wear a Scout uniform.

We’d encourage you to just give it a go. Try helping out for just 4 weeks, gaining an insight, before deciding whether it’s for you. If it is, great, if not, that’s also fine.
